Using surface pro 4 I5 4gb. Trying to connect to my university hostel ethernet is a pain. When I see my friend $500 lenovo laptop doing wonders so much better than my surface pro on such fundamental feature, sometimes i wonder why is this tablet so highly rated among my friends and so much more expensive, even the surface dock accessor is about half the price of some laptops. but simple feature like ethernet port isnt working half as good as the laptops one.
Just bought a new surface dock about 2months+ ago with the Christmas special deal discount. Tv grundig fb. Took about 7 days to reach, but the most important feature, Ethernet port dont seems to be working properly. I had been bearing with it for the past 2 months, but I guess my patience is up.
During a fresh boot up, connections properly connected to an ethernet port on the surface dock, will very likely not have a valid IP4 address. An yellow exclamation will appear at the connection icon on the bottom right of my screen. Theres no internet with the ethernet port provided in our hostel room some times.
With any other laptop, a simple ethernet cable connect and the internet is up through the same port in the same room.
When I run the ipconfig/all command at cmd, it often show me IP V4 subnet mask as 255.255.0.0. The actual one is 255.255.252.0. This is properly the cause -_-
Often when waking up from sleep. The tablet will wake also wakes with an exclamation mark near the connection icon on the bottom right, signifying the same problem.
This can however be fixed with some patience, by disabling and enable the surface ethernet adapter over and over, (5 to 20 times) plus do some diagnostic of the adapter for every several tries,.
