SPSS - Update License Code on Existing SPSS Installation

This document explains how to update the license code on an existing Installation of IBM SPSS Statistics software for both Mac and Windows.

1. Start the IBM SPSS License Authorization Wizard:

• Windows

• In the Start menu, select All Programs.
• In your list of programs, you will see a folder called either SPSS or IBM SPSS Statistics. Open that folder.
• In that folder, you will see a program called either SPSS License Authorization Wizard or IBM SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard.
• Right-click the License Authorization Wizard icon, and select Run As Administrator.
• Log in to a Windows user account with full Administrator access rights. (If you do not have a Windows user account with full Administrator rights, please see your local system administrator or technical support provider.)
• The License Authorization Wizard should then launch.

• Mac OS X:

• In your Applications folder, you should see either an IBM folder or an SPSS folder. Open that folder.
• Inside that folder should be a folder called either SPSS ,19, 20, 21, or 22 (depending on your specific version). Open that folder.
• You should see an application called License Authorization Wizard. Double-click that program.
• The License Authorization Wizard should then launch.

2. The wizard should display the License Status window, which shows the authorization status for all detected SPSS components. Click Next.

3. On the Product Authorization window, select the button next to License my product now. Click Next.

4. Enter the authorization code you received in your SPSS order confirmation, then click Next.

5. If successful, the installer should report 'Successfully processed all codes.' Click Next.

6. Click Finish. You have now completed the installation and license the authorization of your new SPSS software.

A note about older versions of SPSS: IBM no longer supports versions of SPSS earlier than version 19, and is not releasing product codes for them. If you are using an older version of SPSS, you must upgrade to version 19 or later.

If you have SPSS Statistics installed on your computer, you’ll find a listing for it with the other programs in your Start menu. Choose Start→All Programs→IBM SPSS Statistics. You then have two choices:

The first choice is the main program itself — and that will be the number-one selection on your hit parade in days to come. The second choice is the authorization stuff you probably went through when you installed the program.

When you first start SPSS, you see a dialog box like the one shown here. This dialog box lets you go directly to the window you want to work with. The problem is that it assumes you already know what you want to do, but you have no idea what you want to do with SPSS yet, so just click the Cancel button to close the dialog box.

You see the regular Data Editor window. If you’ve ever worked with a spreadsheet, this display should look familiar, and it works much the same way. This window is the one you use to enter data. Expand the window to fill the entire screen because more spaces are displayed at one time.
